Troubleshoot a Lippert Slide-Out: Motor Runs But Room Won’t Move

Description

If you’re having trouble getting the Lippert slide room on your RV to budge, there are a few different things you should do in order to inspect the system and find a solution. More often than not, the problem is a malfunctioning Lippert slide-out motor, which can be caused by poor connection to the onboard battery or an issue with the battery itself.

You may also find that something’s gone wrong with other components of the mechanism, and you can tell whether this is the case if you hit the switch and the Lippert slide-out motor runs but the room doesn’t budge. This is an indication that there’s an obstruction in the hydraulic system.

To help you figure out next steps after you determine the problem lies in the hydraulic system, RV expert Dave Solberg walks you through a quick inspection of the underside of the slide room. He explains that when the Lippert slide-out motor runs but the room doesn’t budge, the the synchronizing cylinder that pushes and pulls the room is likely jammed. He talks about the possible causes of the jam, and tells you how to troubleshoot the system to get it working again. With Dave’s help, your slide room will be moving again in no time!

Need help with slide outside. Was intermittent with clicking from solenoid. Put in new battery, 1 slide came in, other half way then nothing. Solenoid no longer makes clicking sound. Check fluids and breakers, all good. 2008 Keystone 311bhs.

We are also having slid out issues - only one slide out - living room - it will not move. The motor doesn't engage. WE have checked the wiring, and replaced fuses. its a 97 Jayco, and we are not close to where we can take it to a dealer. Any assistance would be appreciated, esp as to where we can get replacement parts, etc.

If you've verified the motor of your slide-room system is working and it's got 12 volt going to it and the room still doesn't retract, then we're gonna come out and take a look at what's causing it from that point out to the mechanism. This happens to be the Lippert in-the-frame slide room, and this synchronizing rod or cylinder here is going to actually move the room in and out. We've a got a little bit of play here. So the first thing I do is I'm gonna hit the switch, and I know that my motor's running, and I see that this bar, this cylinder is not moving at all, so that's telling me that something from the motor or the cylanoid to here is not working, is not connected. I'm gonna have to follow that, probably need to take it in and have somebody look at that point. Now if I hit, the motor's running and I hit the switch and it starts to go and if we get it to stop right like it's doing this, somewhere we've got an obstruction, whether it's in the room itself. We could have, the room is crooked, we've got some settling out of it. One of the important things in a slide-room mechanism is to make sure that you're good and level and secure before you bring that room in, because if my chassis is twisted, my sidewall's gonna be twisted, and then my room's gonna get stuck coming in and out, and I only have so much pressure that can push that in and out. So once we verify we have our jacks down, everything's good here, we may be able to bring it in and out that way. But if it still doesn't do it, then I'm gonna look underneath and take a closer look at the gear system. I might have something jammed underneath. But typically this means if it starts to move, then it's mechanical, it's underneath here. If it doesn't move, it's hydraulic or electrical back in the inside. So just a few things you can do to help troubleshoot your room if the motor's running.
