Description

Many RVers tend to take their shoreline cord for granted. The shoreline cord or shore power cable is a cable that connects your RV or boat to an external power source. You might not know that it can require a bit of routine maintenance to keep it in optimal condition. In this quick video lesson, RV maintenance and repair expert Dave Solberg teaches you how to take care of your shoreline cord and the outlets that you insert it into.

Firstly, you want to take a look at the plug. Scrub away any tarnish with steel wool and then give it a quick spritz and wipe with electrical parts contact cleaner. Next, make sure to turn off the breakers on your external power source to avoid any arcing that can cause resistance and melt your plug. This is true regardless of the amperage.

Next, Dave shows you how to inspect your outlet, which in this case is a TT-30 (travel trailer 30) outlet. Follow along as he walks you through the best way to deal with outlets at campgrounds that have been heavily used.
