New Radio!

Description

The radio that was in the camper was… old. And had a cassette player. And didn’t have Bluetooth. The new one is much better. In addition to having Bluetooth, it’ll play DVDs and CDs, and has a USB port you can plug a flash drive full of music into. This radio was a great upgrade.

The radio in my r.v. doesn't have screws like the one you installed, i'm not sure how to remove it.

Do you remember the old radio that was in here? It was an AM/FM cassette player. There were some, I dunno, Halloween spooky music cassette somebody had left in there, and it didn't work all that well. In fact, I think it didn't work at all. So, this today is a really cool big upgrade. I've got a new radio, and that was just an Amazon purchase. And one of the things we can look at here is what is it gonna take to get old to talk to new, or vice versa, new, to talk to old? So, here's what's neat about this. That's our new wiring harness. This is the old wiring harness. And what's hugely convenient about this is that this spaghetti loop of wires from the old plug, that one, everything is labeled. So, ground, speaker right, speaker left. The positive feed that's coming from the battery. Everything here is labeled. So, when I bring over the new wiring harness, as luck would have it, everything is labeled. So, this isn't gonna be that difficult. It's really just a matter of paying attention to detail and looking at these labels very, very carefully and making sure that this new wire goes to where the old one was when I'm working on speaker right, that it's gotta go to that wire. So, the way I'm gonna do this is, in order to make sure I don't lose track of what's going on, I'm only gonna do one wire at a time. I'm gonna out with one old, in with one new, and make that connection before I move on to the next one, because it would be crazy easy to start getting stuff mixed up here and I would be in a boat load of trouble. So next thing, whole bunch of electrical connections need to get made. Down to the last connection here. And another way to keep track of this, the parts were labeled, the wires are labeled. However, another way to make sure that you're putting everything back together correctly would be, this is the old harness, and when you cut off this lead, cut it so that the old wire is still connected to a colored wire. So, if all I do is take the wire nut off, I'm gonna lose track of what this was originally connected to. If I leave the old wire and the wire nut on there, I can see that, a speaker, left, positive was connected to a yellow. So, if I lose track of where I'm at here, that's gonna be a good reminder. Gotta of love the magic of heat shrink electrical connectors. They're a wonderful thing. All right, everything is currently shut off. The power's off. So I am gonna go get the power back on, and then we're gonna see what we got here. Power in the camper is back on, which means the radio is on. So, lots going on with this radio. It's got a lot of functionality, AM/FM, of course. Plays a DVD and a CD. It's also got a USB port on it. So you could load a flash drive with your own music playlist for dance parties at the camper, and I'm a horrible dancer, and play off of that flash drive. And you can also Bluetooth to a phone. That's even got an alarm on it so you can use it as an alarm to get up in the morning. I have found, I'm gonna turn this down a little to start, what I think is a great camping song. See if you agree. ♪ Hello, Mother, hello, Father ♪ For some of you, this might be before your time. Camp Grenada. ♪ And they say we'll have some fun if it stops raining ♪ ♪ I went hiking ♪ So I'm really happy with how the install went. Take your time on the wiring, make sure that you get each wire where it's gotta go, or it's supposed to go. And then additionally, there's a remote with this unit too, which would be cool to control it from other parts of the camper. So, this is done. What an upgrade to the audio system in this baby. And onto the next step.
