Huguenot Memorial Park: Campground Review
Jason & Lisa McEwenDescription
The McEwen family spent a three-day weekend at this county park in mid-March and offer this review:
Location
Huguenot Memorial Park is located in NE Florida, at the top of Duval County, and just miles from the Georgia border.
Best features
The park’s best feature is its beach. If you’re RVing, you can walk to the beach, or you can drive. Huguenot is one of several beaches in Florida where you can drive right to the ocean, provided you have a 4-wheel drive vehicle.
Campground popularity
Let’s talk about campground popularity. How hard is it to make a reservation at this park? The McEwens were able to call a few months ahead of time and book a long weekend, so it’s not as hard to reserve as some of the other state parks. However, reservations can’t be made online; you have to call to make a reservation.
No water, no sewer
There’s a reason it’s not the best fit for all RVers. There’s no water connection at the sites. It’s electric only. No sewer either, but there’s a dump station.
Park amenities
Aside from the lack of water hookups, the park has a few basic amenities. It has a small but unique playground and a small nature center that’s open during the afternoons. The park is also a haven for bird watchers. It actually closes part of its beach to protect Royal Terns, which breed on the peninsula’s point.
Campground overview
There are 48 RV and tent sites at the park. They’re all fairly close together, and they’re all on sandy terrain, so expect to level your rig upon arrival. All in all, if you’re looking for an off-the-radar beach location, Huguenot Memorial Park is a win.
