Description

RV Lifestyle and Repair Contributors Jason and Lisa McEwen recently stayed at Crooked River State Park in SE Georgia. The park stretches across 500 acres along the intracoastal waterway, and It’s just off Highway 95, so it’s not too far off the beaten path.

You’ll find just over 60 sites here, all of which are tucked inside a maritime forest. The McEwens have camped here several times and tend to come here when they simply want to rest and unwind.

Location

Located just under an hour north of Jacksonville, Florida, just beyond the Florida/Georgia line is Crooked River State Park.

Best Features

The park’s best features are its calm river views and water access. If you have a boat, you can cruise the waters via a boat ramp in the park. You’ll also find spacious RV sites. Unlike other campgrounds where your neighbor is right on top of you, you’ll find large sites scattered throughout the grounds.

Campground Popularity

Unlike other campgrounds in the south that are hard to get reservations at, this campground is moderately popular. You might not be able to get day-of reservations, but you can usually find some a week or so in advance.

Campground Overview

The McEwens stayed at site #5 with their new camper, the Mini Rockwood Lite. The sites are sprinkled around two loops and tucked inside a maritime forest with tall, longleaf pines towering overhead.

When you’re browsing sites to book at Crooked River, take note that some of the sites are premium sites, which means they offer water, electric, and a sewer hookup. Full hookups can be tough to find inside state parks, but of the 64 sites on the grounds, about half have sewer. You can find pull thru-sites too, and all of the sites have a level gravel base to them.

Park Amenities

The park has a handful of amenities. You’ll find trails that wind through the campground and run alongside the river. You’ll find several playgrounds in the park and an on-site mini golf course. It’s a great on-site activity that entertains the kids without having to leave the park. You do pay an extra fee to play.

That’s a look at Crooked River State Park, consider checking it out on your next trip down south. Want to see more campground reviews? Become a member of RV Lifestyle and Repair to unlock more campground reviews.
