We’ve put together some practical tips so you can maximize your storage, declutter effectively, and create an environment for your adventures. Read more below to find out our best RV space-saving tips!
Utilize Vertical Space
In an RV, it is crucial to utilize every inch effectively. The key to maximizing this space lies in going vertical! Install shelves and hanging racks in cabinets, closets, and on any available wall space you don’t mind using for storage. This not only frees up your floor, but also allows you to organize items efficiently. If you’re running low on wall space, over-the-door organizers with hooks and hanging baskets are great options. Hang these in your bathroom for towels and toiletries, or in your closet for shoes and accessories. You don’t necessarily want to cover every in of your walls in storage, but by utilizing some of this vertical space you’ll be able to keep clutter to a minimum!
How to Organize an RV Kitchen
As mentioned above, use that vertical space! Keep your counters clear with a wall-mounted wire basket. A narrow basket is ideal because it doesn’t jut out far from the wall, yet it’s strong enough to hold several phones and devices, chargers, and other necessities. Another great vertical storage option for the kitchen is silverware. Mount utensil holders on an empty wall, maybe over your sink or oven. These can be filled with forks and knives, kitchen tools, or even some greenery to add a delicate touch!
Got a lot of spices? Avoid the spice jar shuffle by hanging a spice rack with grippers on the inside of your cabinets. Be sure to leave space to close the door when installing!
Lastly, utilize wire cabinet shelf racks to maximize space in your taller cabinets. By stacking your ingredients, you fill wasted space with essentials! These simple RV storage solutions for your kitchen will give you more room to cook and serve your food.
Fold & Compress Your Stored Items
One of the most effective ways to maximize space in your RV is by reducing the bulk of your belongings. Vacuum bags are a game-changer for compressing bulky items like pillows, blankets, and off-season clothing. By removing the air from these bags, you can significantly reduce their size, freeing up valuable storage space.
Additionally, learning space-saving folding techniques can help you pack your clothes more efficiently and minimize wrinkles. Try rolling and stacking some of your clothing items to save space. Or try the KonMari method. Popularized by Marie Kondo, emphasizes folding clothes in a specific way that not only saves space but also helps you to declutter and appreciate your belongings. Instead of folding clothes in the traditional way, the KonMari method involves folding them into rectangular shapes and standing them upright in drawers. This method allows you to see all of your clothes at once, making it easier to choose outfits and maintain a tidy space.
By combining these strategies, you’ll be able to pack more in less space, making your RV feel more spacious and organized.
Cable Clamp Options for Better RV Organization
It can be a real hassle to keep cables and cords in proper order while traveling the country in your RV. Honestly, who has the patience for unruly generator hookups? In this video, Dave Solberg has some quick tips to keep your cables organized using a variety of connectors.
For a cable organizer that doubles as a hook, Dave uses a simple rubber loop. You can create a bunch of these using an old rubber inner tube and cutting it into the width of strip you prefer. Looping this around your cable will create a handle loop that will allow you to hang this bundle of cables wherever you need it!
You can also purchase a variety of cable clamps from the store that will adjust to any width you need. However, many clamps are designed for horizontal placement, but some feature built-in handles that allow for easy carrying and even vertical hanging. Look for clamps with handles that have holes for convenient storage or display.
There is one more type of ‘clamp’ that is like an insulated pipe cleaner and can be wrapped around cables of all shapes. Less like a clamp and more like a rope, the excess length allows these tools to be hung or wrapped in a variety of places and are incredibly versatile.
Try any or all of these clamp options for you cables and save yourself the headache of untangling and sorting through your cables every time you need to hook up!
Declutter Regularly
Our last tip is probably the most obvious. To keep your RV neat and organized, keep only the essentials! RV decluttering regularly can go a long way to keeping organized. Avoid accumulating too many unnecessary items that take up a lot of space. One way of doing this is to look for items that have multiple uses. Such as a cutting board that doubles as a serving tray! Sometimes you don’t need all the individual items you think you do.
By implementing these organization tips, you can transform your RV into a functional and comfortable living space. Remember, the key to successful RV organization is to be mindful of your belongings, utilize every available space, and declutter regularly. With a little effort, you can create an RV that’s not only organized but also a joy to travel in. Happy camping!
